I am having trouble finding books that are clear on Alternative medicine. As in proving that Alternative medicine is better and should be a growing part of health care rather than (only) pharmaceuticals.

Anyone know of any good books on the topic of Alternative medicine?
it can even be an argument about pot.. how that should be legalized.. ya know.. and other herbal remedies… or Alternative medicine

In Western culture, the controversial term alternative medicine is any healing practice “that does not fall within the realm of conventional medicine”,or “that which has not been shown consistently to be effective.” It is often opposed to evidence based medicine and encompasses therapies with a historical or cultural, rather than a scientific, basis. However, the term alternative medicine has been criticized by those skeptical of such practices as deceptive. Richard Dawkins has stated that “there is no alternative medicine. There is only medicine that works and medicine that doesn’t work.”

Still a common definition of alternative medicine would be practices not generally recognized by the medical community as standard or conventional medical approaches and used instead of standard treatments. Alternative medicine includes the taking of dietary supplements, megadose vitamins and herbal preparations; the drinking of special teas; and practices such as massage therapy, magnet therapy, spiritual healing and meditation.

Limiting yourself to books on Alternative medicine is probably creating your problem.

Try using the internet as well. It may take a while to narrow down your search to something useful, but the amount of info out there on Alternative medicine is incredible.

Make sure you incorporate the government regulatory and administrative bodies in your search for Alternative medicine. The FDA and CDC should come up in the your topic of Alternative medicine.

Here are a few links that are in the arena of Alternative medicine that may provide some leads:,-dea-.html

You should look into NCCAM, which is run by MDs – as bit of a conflict of interest there.

Good luck with your research on Alternative medicine.
