Menopause is one of the issues that women have to deal with as they age. This article is a discussion of some options you have for natural relief. Usually between the ages of 45 to 55 women will undergo the transformation of menopause. Symptoms such as hot flashes, headaches, depression, and a low sex drive can begin well before it is time for this change of life. More and more women are turning to natural remedies for menopause to help treat their symptoms.

This occurrence is defined by the lack of a menstrual cycle for 12 consecutive months, with no other medical causes. Some of the other symptoms are hot flashes, vaginal dryness, head and body aches, and night sweats. Many of these symptoms may be helped with herbal supplements or other holistic remedies.

The traditional solution is to prescribe hormone therapy drugs to replace the estrogen lost when the bodies production of it slows down. However, estrogen may be replaced naturally through eating foods with higher estrogen levels in them. These plant based foods include soybeans, yams, crushed flax seeds, oats, peas, and sunflower seeds, to name a few.

One of the most common symptoms is hot flashes. Hot flashes can cause an intense feeling of heat, nausea, chills and a flushing sensation throughout the body. Drinking many glasses of steam-distilled water and taking 800 mg of evening primrose oil up to three times daily can help with hot flashes.

Other herbs can be used for symptom relief as well. Black Cohosh is effective in helping with hot flashes and night sweats, as well as depression. Low sex drive is a common issue during the change and Ginseng is a herb that may help increase a woman’s sex drive.

Night sweats can be so intense as to wake women up from a deep sleep. Insomnia is another problem associated with ‘the change’. Using natural remedies for menopause such as melatonin, Valerian or homeopathic methods can aid in producing a restful, healing sleep.
